"Emergence of complexity in life sciences"

Professor József Baranyi
University of Debrecen - Hungria
  • What dilemmas do we face when our inference is based on uncertain knowledge and observations?
  • What role do randomness and deterministic laws play in real life events and in their predictions?
  • How does a system of complex interactions introduce chaos in otherwise deterministic predictions?

József Baranyi is leading the Predictive Nutrition Research Group, University of Debrecen, Hungary. He is a Hungarian-British mathematician, who worked for the Institute of Food Research (today: Quadram Institute), UK, for 26 years, where he lead the Computational Microbiology Research Group. A Private Professor as well as a Doctor Honoris Causa of the Hungarian University of Life Sciences, Budapest. Visiting Professor of Imperial College, London, UK, 2012 - 19.
